Apps and cloud services

Do you want to use mobile services more in your work? In the list below, you find a selection of apps that are useful if you are a student or employee.

If you are an employee at LiU and want to learn more about some of these apps, you can also register for the library's workshop Mobile academic.

Bluefire reader

Bluefire Reader is an app for downloading and reading e-books from the library. Due to digital rights management you have to create an Adobe-ID to read the e-books.

Available for:

Dropbox

Dropbox is a cloud service that many people use to upload pictures and other documents. Just like Box you can share your files and access them wherever you are. Dropbox gives its users 2 GB free storage capacity.

If you're an employee at LiU, you're not allowed to use this app for job purposes, since there is no license agreement between the provider and LiU. You can, of course, still use the app for private purposes.

Encylopædia Britannica

Encyclopædia Britannica is the worlds largest English speaking dictionary. As a student or employee at LiU you have full access to this resource. For this connection to work, download the app when you are on campus.

Evernote

With Evernote you can take notes and pictures, create lists and share with others. The notes are synchronized so you can access them from all your devices. Using Evernote webclipper you can cut and paste articles, text and images from the web.

If you're an employee at LiU, you're not allowed to use this app for job purposes, since there is no license agreement between the provider and LiU. You can, of course, still use the app for private purposes.

Google Drive

Google Drive is a cloud service allowing you to create documents, question forms, data sheets and more, and gain access to them wherever you are. In contrast to Box and Dropbox, several people can collaborate and edit in the same document in real time.

If you're an employee at LiU, you're not allowed to use this app for job purposes, since there is no license agreement between the provider and LiU. You can, of course, still use the app for private purposes.

Mendeley

Mendeley is a free reference management system where you can save and organize references, articles and other documents. Mendeley is also a social networking tool which can be used to interact with others and distribute research.

Microsoft OneDrive

OneDrive is a cloud service where you can save and share documents in Word-, Excel- and Power Point format. As a LiU-student or LiU-employee you have access to OneDrive with unlimited storage space through Lisam,  Linköping University’s social collaboration platform for learning.

PubMed on tap

PubMed on tap is the app for the medical database PubMed. There is a free version and a more advanced version that costs money. To be able to read articles in fulltext you have to be a student or employee at LiU, and you will have to fill in the URL for the library´s proxy server into the app.

Scannable

Scan your handwritten notes with the app Scannable. The image is saved in the app but you can also share it via Evernote or e-mail.
