Access to E-Resources
Here you can find information about how to get access to the Library's electronic resources.
Electronic resources, or e-resources, is an umbrella term for e-articles, e-books, e-journals, databases, websites, mobile interfaces etc. Off-campus, only LiU employees and students have access to the library's e-resources.
If you are experiencing problems accessing our electronic resources, you are always welcome to Ask us.
Check for access with LiU Full Text
If you have found an article or some other electronic material in one of our databases, you then check it's availability by clicking on the button "LiU Full Text":
You find the button in the hitlist, or in the abstract of the article. Sometimes it consists only of the text "LiU Full Text".
In the Library’s search service UniSearch, the button has a different look:
Log in on the library startpage
If you're a student or employee at LiU, and your computer isn't connected to LiU's network while visiting the library startpage, the page offers you to log in to the library e-resources. The login box is shown at the top of the page.
When you've logged in, you will stay logged in through your entire session on the library website. This means you won't have to log in multiple times if you move between the site and different e-resources, such as journals, databases or the search service UniSearch. You can log out on the library startpage at any time.
The service works in those cases where you have logged in on the library startpage and proceed from there to the resource you are looking for, for example via UniSearch or a direct link on the library website. The service won't be active if you start your search elsewhere, for example on Google.
An alternative to logging in on the library startpage is to use one of the following add-ons for easier access to journals when you're not on campus. Once you have found a resource that you want to access, click on the add-on or bookmarklet (see below), and the page will be loaded through the proxy service. Sometimes you have to reload the page manually. On some sites, you should use the bookmarklet already in the table of contents, such as IEEE, JSTOR and SpringerLink.
- Install EZProxy Redirect
- Right-click on the book icon that appears next to the URL field in Chrome and go to "Options"
- Choose "Linköping University" in the menu "Select school"
- Install EZproxy Helper
- Open the settings for add-ons in Firefox, followed by the settings for EZproxy Helper
- Add the library's EZproxy URL in the "URL" field: https://login.e.bibl.liu.se/login?url=$@
Safari or Internet Explorer
Install the proxy bookmarklet as a bookmark, you can simply drag and drop it to the bookmarks bar:
iOS or Android
Links to electronic resources (which are not freely available) in UniSearch and other search tools on the library website always goes through proxy login.
If you are using a VPN service like Cisco VPN client you have to log in to library resources in one of the ways described above.
Mobile services and apps
Some resources will auto-switch to a mobile interface when accessed by a mobile device.
There are three main ways to get access to the resources for authorized users, i.e. students and employees at the university:
- The app is paired to an e-mail address ending with @liu.se or @student.liu.se
- The URL to our proxy server (sometimes called proxytag) is entered into the app. The address to the proxy server is:
- The mobile device is paired to the resource. This could be done either when on the university network or when logged in through the library proxy server.
For LiU-students and employees that wish to work in a more mobile world, the library has created a list with a selection of useful apps and cloud services.
Link to e-resources
To create links to electronics resources, which, off-campus, are available only to students and employees at the university, you need to add some information to the links, in order to make them work properly.
Using the library's link generator, you can create such reliable links. The resolver can be useful, for example, if you are a teacher and need to create a bibliography that contains electronic articles or books.
