How do I get access to articles in Elsevier journals?
The national subscription agreement between the Bibsam consortium and the publisher Elsevier has been terminated from 18/6/30, affecting access to journal articles for Linköping University Library patrons. As a researcher or student at LiU, there are other ways to get access to articles from Elsevier.
The following material is not affected:
- Articles published before 18/7/01 are accessible in the same ways as before.
- E-books, e-reference works, and databases from Elsevier, such as Scopus and Reaxys, will not be affected but are accessible just as before.
To get access to articles published after 18/6/30 in Elsevier journals:
- Find open access versions of articles by installing web browser plugins such as Unpaywall or the Google Scholar button. Use your network, research platforms, or contact the author.
- Order the article you want as an interlibrary loan (if you can wait a few days). LiU researchers can also get quick access through Get It Now. To use this service, look up the article in a library database, e.g. ScienceDirect. Click “check access”, you will then be offered to place an interlibrary request or order it via Get It Now. Both options are free of charge for you as a researcher, but the Get It Now-option is considerably more expensive for the library.

Due to a police exercise at Campus Valla, the library will close at 6 pm on Thursday the 4th of October.
The library will compensate researchers’ their OA fees when publishing in pure Open Access journals.
